Management of Projects

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

QDV7 includes a Management module. Unlike ProMo+, it is installed together with the Estimating module. It features fewer functions than ProMo+, such as the use of a master server.

The Management module offers insights into project portfolios to users on corporate networks. It opens relational databases.

Procedure: click File>Open, and select the type: qdc file or MS SQL server-based database. A SQLite database can be transformed into a (new or empty!) SQL one using the tool described in Migrating from SQLite databases to SQL Server.

Each database (i.e. portfolio) lists out the projects described by one numbering rule, one structure, one set of field attribute values, and one set of tables (option). The maximum cardinality is higher than 1, i.e. several projects can be listed for one company.

The general procedure for feeding the main table (or main list) is described in How to Create an Estimate. Find details hereafter.

NOTES

- If the folder entered in Settings does not exist, the creation of estimates fails.

- Version and progress management: as two rows cannot be linked to one full QDV path, save the versions or progresses in different folders.

Provisioning

The data independent of the Estimating module are entered in either way in Edit mode:

directly in the projects table for the title, and the columns without attached sub-table

by taping into a sub-table wherever it has been defined.

The project numbers are auto-filled after their input rank. (Refer to Settings.)

warning Enter the field values implied in the numbering BEFORE the Edit mode is exited; otherwise, delete the row, and repeat.

The Estimated price and Price are native fields that can be set in the Fields Manager to Read or Write. This attribute is repeated in the Estimating module (Automation>Global Variables>Display global variables) when the estimate is saved:

When set to Read in the Management module, the entered value is repeated in the Estimating module (as Read).

When set to Write (or None) in the Management module, the entered value is reset to 0 in the Estimating module (as Write).

warning In the first case, thef meta-data are edited in the Management module, to have them updated in the Estimating module, it is necessary to click Link to Estimate and reselect the estimate.

The data in the tables are saved automatically within the qdc file whenever the Edit mode is exited.
