Estimating books are used to provide the relevant costs of materials and workforce for operations or trades ("time & material"). They list out
▪the costs and selling prices of materials and workforce in trade between a general contractor and the owner
▪or the costs reported by business units to a general service. (Refer to Task Sharing.)
As the prices for materials and workforce often change, due to fluctuations in the market and to inflation, these books are frequently updated and republished.
An estimate is made up of several items:
▪Condensed WBS
▪Expanded WBS
▪BoQ (optional)
▪View of the Minutes
▪Database (optional)
▪Planner (optional)
▪Nomenclatures
▪Overhead workbook
▪Reports.
If the tabs are hidden, scroll down and/or minimize the Ribbon.
When you select a tab, the label turns white, and the tab background color changes from blue to a specific color.
To modify this color for Minutes and Nomenclature, refer to How to Organize a Sheet.
NOTE If the other tabs' font is colored black on a gray background, that means you need to change the current state before switching to another item.
The menu ribbon is shared by all the items in the estimate, but restrictions apply according to the item.
Context bars:
▪"Database" when a database is open in Edit mode
▪"Edition" with Overhead workbook
▪"Reporting": all the functions on Reports (except the switch to Edition mode) are gathered herein.
For any operation, first select the item, then the bar, the group and the function.
To print a WBS or an Overhead sheet, click File>Print and select the item.
To print rows in the Minutes view, make first a selection as per How to Make a Selection in a Sheet; the smallest printed chunk is the section of Minutes (for this, it is enough to select any cell in the related section).
To show a preview (which may take time), check the box On demand only, click Preview and select either zoom value; to change the view, uncheck the box.
NOTE To print a report, use the "Reporting" context bar.
