Use Case
To quickly spot cells, it is helpful to summarize the WBS using various strategies:
▪filtering or classification: refer to How to Navigate the WBS
▪collapsing of linked rows as described right here.
When collapsing, this summary sums the quantities whether they are in the columns defined from:
▪WBS Quantity
▪or a free field that handles the Customer quantity as described right here (this is used when the end customer requires another quantity
▪or the Quantity for evaluation WBS as described in How to Empower the Minutes with Quantity Calculation Capabilities.
Condition
Force the quantities to 1 in branches: check the File>Options>Editing>Force quantities to 1 for branches of the WBS box.
Prerequisite When There is a Quantity column Dedicated to the End Customer Quantity
To mark a WBS free field as a customer quantity, double-click the Flags column in the Fields Manager for the WBS, select Handles the Customer Quantity and click outside the menu.
NOTES
- You can deactivate the flag the same way.
- Once you have inserted the column, you can read the comment using the Properties context menu.
Procedure
To show a consolidated view for the linked tasks, select View>Sorted WBS.
In the window, check the "Collapse the linked tasks" box. This aggregates the fit-for-sum numeric values of child tasks to the parent one, while distinguishing the core estimate and the options. This includes the customer quantity if it has been marked.
Then the 'Information' columns of the parent task feature a red background (on the first deployment of the window).
Move on as described in How to Navigate the WBS.
The WBS itself does not change.
Extension
If you check the Options>Calculations>'QEval of the parent contains the sum of all quantities in the link when linked' box, the Quantities for Evaluation (WBS) are also summed. (Refer to How to Empower the Minutes with Quantity Calculation Capabilities.)
