Use Case
For big estimates, consider not entering the values of variables of type A in the tasks dictionary, but in a workbook that reflects the WBS outline. You can also carry out calculations therein.
Principle
A spreadsheet is associated to each task dictionary.
Procedure
Create in addition the WBS Variables Workbooks special free field (Refer to Free Fields).
An additional column points at various WBS levels to worksheets that feed the values of variables declared in the WBS Variables column.
Double-click the X in the WBS Variables column.
To declare the variables, enter variable names (without WBV_) as usual, then click the extra Workbook button.
In the spreadsheet, select a cell containing an entered or calculated value, select the related row in the lower left corner, and right-click on Feed variable from selected cell. This pastes the reference in the Written From column.

In the outline, the scope is the highest node (which features a shaded background).
Edition can be done under Excel (Exchange menu). Of course, importing such a file (converted to xls format) removes the references to WBS_ variables for the current workbook.
To directly edit the workbook, double-click an x in the WBS Variables Workbooks column. No external variable (including a global variable) is allowed in.
The values are passed down to underlying nodes. In case of conflicting values, the nearest node has precedence.
When you copy-paste or move such a work package, whether into the same estimate or to a foreign one, the computing is kept.
