Use Case

The generator of reports of a simulated estimate is geared to What If analysis, as it allows you to very quickly run many scenarios and generate their reports.

It enables you to print and export an estimate to which are attached one or several scenarios.

Procedure

Starting point: the scenarios has been defined in the editor.

warning Enter a parent name in the scenario editor is indispensable. Otherwise, the message 'The scenario X cannot be found" will show up.

Select the Expanded WBS tab and click Automation>Scenarios>Generate documents from scenarios; this opens a dialog window.

The initial estimate shows as a scenario with the name 'Current quantities' in red. It will always be processed first.

There are several types of report:

the QDV Report Profiles with a pfl extension

the Stimulsoft models (Refer to Selecting & Editing a Report)

the Excel models. (Refer to Designing an Excel Report.)

To set up a set of report models for the estimate:

1.Click the Add buttton

2.In the file selector, select the report models extension in the drop-down

3.Select the report profile(s) of interest; do not select a report model of IDIQ type

4.If needed, repeat with another report profile extension.

To  share a set of reports between several estimates, use the Save and Load Settings buttons (file extension: qdvscenarios).

Select the scenario(s), potentially the receiving field (target field) and the folder to deposit the generated files to.

The reports will be published as pdf or xlsx: click the related Create button. To insert the scenario id in the header or footer of a pdf file, refer to Reports.

A macro runs the following sequence of actions:

1.application of the first checked scenario; the scenario name is added as comment in the Quantité column if it is target field

2.rendition of the estimate in a file in accordance with the first checked scenario

3.rendition of the estimate in a file in accordance with the second checked scenario, etc

4.actions #1, 2 & 3 for the second checked scenario, etc..

The generated files are stored in a QDV_Reporting time-tagged sub-folder. The file names are: <Parent name>_<Scenario name>[Report profile name].

NOTE The potential macros embedded in the reports or being triggered by the “On_After_Create_DataSource” event are run on creation (Refer to Events Management.)
