The need to define a base arises in various situations:
▪You need to create an empty .grp file: select the toolbar Data>Databases>Databases>All Databases>New
▪You want to record a set from the minutes in a new database: refer to How to Record a Set
▪You have structured a workbook created outside QDV7 into sets: refer to Conversion of a Workbook into a Set Database.
Tool: Data>Databases>Open Databases
To define an empty database:
1.Click Data>Open Databases; the Databases selector shows
2.Select the host directory path (if none is appropriate, select the Paths tab, select a blank number and click New), select the tab databases and click New
3.Select the .grp extension and name the file (do not use the name of a database or directory that already exists in the directory); the selector shows again
4.Click Close
5.Click Data>Open Databases; the new database shows in bold typeface.
The new database will show in the selector if the chosen directory is bookmarked:
In each directory all the set database names have boldface.
To show only the set databases, select the filter All Sets.
NOTE A set database can get a derogation code. Refer to Prefixes.
For a distant set, click the Paths>Server button; refer to How to Deploy a relational database and How to Access a QDV Database with SQL Server.
The Setting tab>Sets editor rules out the insertion into the minutes view of the current estimate; it is independent of the set:
▪Mark the imported sets as groups: will its rows be grayed in the Minutes?
▪Insert sets' titles in the minutes: the description of the set header is always inserted
▪Insert titles of sub-sets: the description of the subset header row are always inserted
▪Do not boldface titles of sets: will the description in the header row be in bold typeface?
▪Set 999999999 to all missing article fields when imported by a set: if an article does not exist or the database cannot be opened, this option sets the Costs per unit and Times per unit of the whole set of fields (Material, Workforce, ...) to 999,999,999
▪Insert a blank row between imported sets.
Save the estimate before insertion.
For derogations to the second and third boxes, refer to How to Parameterize the Insertion into the Minutes.
