Use Case
Example: a crane may be used to build a road, and a bridge as well. How to include the rental cost?
▪Adding a lump sum in the Sheet of Sales is not precise
▪Splitting the activity, creating two minutes with one Kind Id and summing them in the first section in the Workforce sheet (Core Estimate) is long
▪Using one "Overhead Minute" that is not attached to any task is the simplest way: it is the Overhead Task, whose Kind IDs are generally taken from those of the Workforce (directly or indirectly as in the example hereunder):
Procedure
In File>Options, check the last option Overhead costs minute:
Close and reopen the estimate; a new tab shows up. Being unique, this overhead task has no name of its own.
This tab shares the upper frame and the lower pane with the regular Minutes (Core estimate).
Fill out the Minutes as usually:
After refreshment (refer to General Interface), the values are summed in the overhead sheets; in the spread sheets, the sums show in a special section (Overhead Task) by Kind ID.
The Overhead Minute costs do not show in the WBS costs, but its selling prices are added to the WBS selling prices according to the rates and calculation modes.
In formulas, the Overhead Minute canNOT invoke WBS variables, but can invoke global variables and quantities that depend on a scenario via a Formula for Quantity. Refer to Other Special Columns For Quantity.
To create scenarios, you can also insert the Quantity factor special free column. Refer to Other Special Columns For Quantity. The entered value 0.05 ... 5 automatically applies to the Quantity; the Quantity can still be edited. It can be used in a set.
As soon as you create a group (using the F6 key), the heading row description shows in a new node.
This is used to navigate the Overhead Task: when you click a node, the cursor moves to the corresponding group heading.
