Use Case

To better the utilization of resources (cost) or the overall duration, it may be necessary to move tasks, to have works overlapped in accordance with the constraints and dependencies.

Then a genetic algorithm is necessary.

Procedure

Set the tasks which depend on resources to 'Fixed work' mode. The algorithm may change the entered duration.

Click Planning>Adjust resources and let QDV7 add resources (depending on what is in the Overhead>Workforce sheet).

Click Planning>Optimize Gantt.

Enter the Population (number of tasks, at least 3) and Selection (at least 2) sizes, the goal (duration or cost) and the guidelines.

Check the time status of interest (Steady, Running, Waiting, Paused).

Click Run. At each iteration ("generation"), the algorithm tries to better the "fitness".

Wait a few seconds to get for example 400 generations (the more the better) and click Stop.

The Gantt and resources diagrams are rearranged.

To dismiss the calculated values, click the icon in the upper task bar.
